What is Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction (ED), also known as impotence, is a common health condition that affects millions of men around the world, with about 40% of men over 40 struggling with ED. It is characterized by the inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. This condition can be quite frustrating and embarrassing for men to deal with, often causing stress in relationships and low self-confidence.

There are many different causes of impotence (physical and psychological) including diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, smoking, damage to the nerves and blood vessels that controls erection, stress, anxiety and depression but the most common is the build-up of plaque, which slowly occurs over years and reduces blood circulation to the penile area.

Although this is a common condition, it should not be seen as an inevitable part of aging. At Arthur Direct Care, we believe that men should be able to enjoy sexual intercourse regardless of age. Many men find it difficult to talk to their health care professionals about erectile dysfunction, but this conversation is important in order to find the best treatment options

COMMON CAUSES OF IMPOTENCE

ED can be caused by a lot of factors, ranging from physical health conditions to psychological issues. While some cases of ED may be caused by one factor, in many cases there is no identifiable cause. However, poor blood circulation to the penile area can lead to problems getting and maintaining an erection, so any medical condition that hampers blood flow can cause impotence.

Some of the most common causes of impotence include:

  • Poor blood flow to the penile area due to plaque build-up
  • Damage to the nerves that control erection due to surgery or prostate cancer treatment
  • Psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, or depression
  • Physical problems such as obesity
  • Enlarged prostate
  • Hormonal problems such as low testosterone levels
  • Medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure
  • Medications such as antidepressants, antihistamines, and blood pressure medications
  • Smoking and other tobacco use
  • Alcoholism and Drug abuse
  • Sleep Disorder

SYMPTOMS OF ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION

The main symptom of erectile dysfunction is not being able to get an erection. Other symptoms include:

  • Difficulty keeping an erection for sex
  • Weaker morning erections
  • Disinterest in sex / Lack of sex drive

ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION TREATMENT

Many men have come to accept, taking pills like “blue pill” and other similar products, as the only treatments for ED, however, there are a lot of treatments for impotence in men, including medication, lifestyle changes, vacuum devices, and surgery. However, most of these treatments only provide temporary relief and can come with major side effects. This is where Arthur Direct Care’s Shockwave therapy for ED can be a game changer. Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive alternative Erectile Dysfunction treatment that can address the underlying causes of impotence.

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy, also known as low-intensity focused shockwave therapy (Li-SWT) or Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), is a new, non-invasive erectile dysfunction treatment with great results. This therapy uses high-energy sound waves to break down penile plaques and improve blood flow to the penile area to increase erections, sensitivity and sexual performance.

Dr. Albert Arthur, our board-certified physician and one of the best ED specialist in the Austin area, uses focused shockwave therapy to perform the ED treatment. It typically takes 6 treatments to achieve optimal results. Patients usually see improvements in their ED symptoms a few weeks into the shockwave therapy sessions, as new healthy tissue and blood vessels are built up, increasing blood flow.

ESWT is not recommended for men who have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners. It is also not recommended for men who have a penile implant or a history of priapism.

Why choose Focused Shockwave Therapy

One of the main benefits of shockwave therapy is that it is a non-invasive treatment. This means that there is no surgery involved, and it does not require any needles or injections. Shock wave therapy is also relatively quick and easy to perform, taking only a few minutes per session.

Another benefit of shock wave therapy is its effectiveness in treating the underlying cause of ED. Many other treatments only provide temporary relief from symptoms, but shock wave therapy can help to improve blood flow and restore erectile functions.

This treatment has been clinically proven to be safe and effective for most men with ED. It is a good option for men who are unable or unwilling to undergo surgery or take medication for erectile dysfunction.

How Our Program Works

1

Free Phone Consultation

Our program begins with a 20 minutes FREE initial consultation. During this call, Dr. Arthur will listen to you and address your medical concerns and help you with the needed information to make a decision about your erectile dysfunction. Additionally, you will need to complete the Erectile function questionnaire before your in-office appointment.

2

Doctor's Visit/Lab Work

An in person visit is required after the FREE tele-consult. During this visit, Dr. Arthur will go over your score of the Erectile function questionnaire with you, run a comprehensive lab work then discuss the treatment plan and schedule an appointment for the treatment to start once the lab results are in.

3

6 Weeks Treatment Plan

During the treatment, Dr. Arthur will apply a numbing cream to the penile area and then move a wand-like device around the area to emit gentle short pulses of low intensity focused shock waves to improve erectile dysfunction. This reduces penile plaque and rejuvenates blood vessels, capillaries and tissue, resulting in the formation of larger vessels and increased blood flow resulting in increased sensitivity, firmness and longer lasting erections. Each treatment takes approximately 15-20 minutes.
